On "Fuck With Me and Find Out"
I originally chose this song because of the weird shit Wesley does with his voice in the chorus. I thought that I could modulate here and there and essentially turn the song into a contemporary composition without a sound key signature, kinda like Coltrane’s "Giant Steps" but a whole lot less sophisticated. After going through the initial process of composing the score, I started to chant "fuck with me and find out" in my head over and over again. Then I thought to myself, "What the fuck am I doing?!" This song comes from the roots. It’s a basic instinct of angst, power, and the desire for respect. There is no composition here. There’s only raw, emotional fury that undoubtedly exists in all of us. And thus began my new approach. I started out by emulating Wesley’s infamous intros with the guitar. After that, everything minus the lyrics was improvised. I hit a bunch of shit in no particular order. I danced around and recorded my footsteps. I kept driving the beat until there was no real coherent structure. What exist instead was a conglomerate of raw energy-untamed, without compromise and in short, the Wesley Willis way. That is what I did with my cover and if you don’t like the song, then FUCK YOU.
